I Wanted to Make a Difference, So I Did.
When I started my Professional Organizing business 8 and a half years ago, it was clear to me what my purpose was: I wanted the work I was doing to make a difference.
I wanted to help people clear their clutter in order to live a more meaningful life.
Everything about this felt right and I can say, even to this day, I get the chills when a client shares what a difference we have made in their lives.
During a recent session with a client, we were discussing her goals and desires. She is downsizing after raising a family and living in her home for 48 years, and I recognize what a big deal this is.
The hardest part about this process is that she is doing it alone. She lost her husband unexpectedly a few years back and she is bravely moving forward with their plan to downsize and remodel their new home.
She thought she could do it alone and with the help of some friends but, after diving into the process, she realized she was in over her head.
This work can be emotional, she was tired, and was feeling overwhelmed about how to get it all done and remodel her new home at the same time.
After our initial home assessment, we created a plan to support her goals. She was so relieved. She told me many times how grateful she was that we were going to help her. She felt our support immediately and was thankful that she was not having to do this work alone.
We recently completed her kitchen downsizing. Afterwards, she was opening cupboards and drawers and exclaimed, “ Wow, my stuff looks so happy! I didn't realize how much the clutter was affecting my daily life.”
She could immediately feel the shift in her space after letting go. This is the magic that happens when you show up for “the work”.
We are still in the messy middle phase of decluttering and making sure everything that she is keeping will fit into the design of her new home. We have many months before we get to the end, but I feel so grateful to get to do this work with amazing people like her.
I know we are making a difference, and that means everything!
Be well,
