Do You Really Want to Do This Alone?
You have a vision for your walk-in closet. You know what you want it to look like and how you want it to function but, the reality is you don’t have time in your busy life to get anything accomplished.
Does this sound familiar?
We got the call from a former client who is a busy professional, managing two households, a career, and - on top of all of that - her husband had recently been diagnosed with cancer. They needed help with designing a walk-in Primary closet & a walk-in Linen closet.
So they reached out to us for help.
Their primary goal was to design simple closets with easy access to everything. It was important that everything was visible without having to open a cabinet door.
Another goal was for the closets to feel calm when they were getting ready in the morning or winding down after a busy day. The systems needed to be consistent and cohesive so that everything had a home.
In the new Primary Closet, we needed to make enough space to hang her jeans. She needed storage for tall boots, 25 pairs of shoes, and her husband needed ample drawer storage to keep his cycling clothes. All of the keepsake storage that was currently in the Primary Closet also needed to be stored properly and moved into the new Linen Closet.
We ask these important questions early on in the design process so we can create the ideal closet that fits all their needs and desires.
Considering their goals, we thought the Elfa Classic Closet System from The Container Store would be the perfect match for them! So we started with measuring the closets and all of the contents, getting clarity about what was going to be stored inside so we knew the key features that were necessary to include in the design of this space.
Here is what the temporary storage solutions in their Primary Closet looked like before we started to work our magic. They had rolling racks for their hanging clothes and makeshift shelving to store everything in the space temporarily. It was disorganized with no cohesive systems for storage.
The Linen closet was pretty empty but needed to meet a lot of needs. We designed this room to house their keepsake bins, current linens, the vacuum, and lots of travel bags.
So we got to work on the designs!
After a few design reviews and many layout changes later, we landed on the closet systems that they loved and moved forward with the scheduling of the installation.
The Primary walk-in closet had the husband's clothes on the right and the wife’s clothes on the left. We designed each side to meet their individual needs.
Some of the design features that were key to optimizing storage were….
Shoe Gliders
Short and Long Hanging Sections
Drawers for Folded Clothes
…and Shelving for Accessories and Sweaters.
The Linen Closet was just across the hall from the Primary closet. Here is what it looked like after we transformed it.
The installation and organizing of the new closet happened while the client was away on business. We checked in with them on details from time to time, but they did not see the new closet until they came home a few days later.
When she finally saw her new closet, she was blown away by the new space and what we accomplished in just a few days. Her text messages said it all!
“It looks amazing. Blown away at your talents”
“Thank you!!!!”
“What an incredible difference”
“Seriously, it looks fantastic”
“What a relief!!!”
“You are amazing. We are so grateful!”
Getting to this point was a lot of work. We reviewed details, the design, and their goals so many times throughout the process. Getting feedback like this always reminds me why we go the extra mile to make our clients happy - because it makes a difference!
Transforming this family's life in this simple, but important, way was everything for them in that chapter of their lives.
