Letting Go of Clothes In Your Closet That Are Collecting Dust

Do you have clothes in your closet you never wear? Well, you are not alone. I see this all the time when I work one on one with clients to do a closet edit.

We purchase things for a special occasion, wear it once and then it starts to collect dust in the closet.

We buy something because we want to be “on trend” when in fact that trend does not make us feel confident when we wear it, so we never choose to put it on.

We convince ourselves we need it because it's just so cute and we want to be that woman who wears "that dress." But it’s still hanging in the closet with the tags on.

Our vision of who we want to be and who we actually are can get very blurry when it comes to clothes and fashion.

I was working with a client recently who had just moved into her newly remodeled home. She had a beautiful new California Closets closet designed just for her but we were struggling to fit all her clothes.

We pulled out all the clothes that she was on the fence about keeping and I had her try them all on. If they didn’t meet the following criteria, then they had to go.

1. She felt confident

2. She felt comfortable
3. She felt like herself
4. It fit her perfectly
5. Not stained ripped, or in disrepair

She was able to narrow it down enough to fit it in her closet. Now she just has the things she loves and will actually wear!

What’s your closet organizing challenge? Leave a comment below and let me know. I’d love to hear from you.

Ciao for now,
